Phonics

Students will begin to understand "The Code" of written words by learning to identify the sounds letters make, and how to manipulate them. Connections are made between letters and sounds as students prepare to "Crack the Code" of reading.

Fluency and Comprehension

Building fluency takes practice! But it also requires keeping students excited and engaged! Building fluency (the speed and smoothness of their decoding) opens the doorway to really comprehending new material, and making connections.

Decoding Skills

Using techniques from The Science of Reading, students learn to isolate and blend sounds and sound patterns. A variety of strategies are covered from vowel teams, tricky rules, high frequency words, and more!

Writing

Writing skills are progressive and layered, and vital for students to be able to express their thoughts and ideas well. From the basic mechanics of sentence structures, and parts of speech, to paragraphs and essays, I help students find their voice, broaden their vocabulary, and develop the confidence to believe their words matter.
